March is Women's History Month! Here at FCW we're celebrating the history of women in ministry! Throughout this month, several FCW members will share their stories about the challenges and rewards of being a woman leader in the church. This week, we'll be hearing from our very own Pastor Nicole.
Pastor Nicole felt God's call to her as a young child, but it was not until she met a woman minister as her chaplain in college, did she imagine that she could be an ordained minister. She entered seminary at the University of Chicago Divinity School at age 22 in 1993 and has been serving churches in the United Church of Christ ever since. In 2003 in Kettering, OH she was their first settled woman minister; in 2009 at Beneficent Church in Providence, RI she was their first woman senior minister; and in 2016 at First Church in Windsor she is their first woman senior minister. Sometimes being 'first' means helping to define women's leadership, which feels so different to churches who have only had men pastors. Pastor Nicole says "Every month we celebrate Women's History just by having me as the pastor. If it weren't for the many women who have come before me and paved the way, I would not be here."
