In the midst of new dimensions, in the face of changing ways, Who will lead the pilgrim peoples, wandering in their separate ways? God of rainbow, fiery pillar, leading where the eagles soar, We your people, ours the journey, now and ever, now and ever, now and evermore. --New Century Hymnal #391

As we enter this new era of our beloved church’s life, many small changes will become part of our life together. One of those will take place this fall as your Generosity Team leads us in our pledge campaign. Our discussions the past two years have focused very much on how important we are to one another as a faith community where we hope we are not “wandering in our separate ways”. Because community and relationship are so important to us all (even the loners among us affirm the way they feel cared for!), we want to emphasize that in the way we invite your giving. So this fall, we will begin a process of visiting each other to share our stories of our own relationship to our church and to one another. About one third of our homes will receive visitors this year, and more in coming years. Don’t worry: it won’t be a “hard sell” approach, but a gentle nurturing reminder of our care for one another and for our church! For some of us, talking about money and giving comes naturally. For others, it is disconcerting and for some offensive. Yet we in the Christian church know that Jesus taught more about money than any other matter, way more than sex, for instance! Many of us were taught in our youth that money matters are private, and of course we respect that. It is also true that the ability to talk about giving enhances our spiritual journey and leads us closer to God and Christ, for giving is at the core of the Christian identity. We are looking forward to this new way of inviting one another to give generously to sustain and grow our church as we move into the new dimensions of our life together!
