After a year-long process of church-wide discernment, First Church has established that we have six core values which we place at the heart of our mission. These core values are as follows:
We place a high value on acts of Social Justice, based on Christ’s call to love one another. We strive to actively and consistently participate in justice-focused initiatives such as the March for Our Lives, our Love Your Muslim Neighbor program, and involvement in the Windsor Refugee Resettlement program. We continue to strive to be a faithful Open and Affirming community.
Hands on Mission
We believe that we are the eyes and ears, hands and feet of Jesus in a broken world. We hope to be healers in our local community as we commit ourselves to the work of Jesus. Throughout the year, members gather backpacks and school supplies for children in need, assemble Thanksgiving and Easter Baskets for those facing food insecurity, purchase gifts from our Giving Tree and prepare food for shelter meals.
As a church family, we value fellowship that builds cohesiveness through personal friendships, service, caring, and support. Opportunities to strengthen relationships and make new friends include Coffee Hour, Bible Study, Book Groups, our Prayer Shawl and Parish Caring Ministries, and our new Pub Theology Meetings. We will keep inviting new people to worship with us, offering our extravagant welcome to guests and members alike!
The Apostle Paul says, “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds, so that you may discern what is the will of God – what is good and acceptable and perfect.” (Romans 12:2) Transformational Worship is the way our community discovers the expansive and life-changing spirit of God. When we gather together, we want to have an experience of the holy – in our hearts, our minds, and our souls. The creator God works through creativity, and we are experimenting with new ways to worship. We have enjoyed contemporary and jazz services, a series of Sacred Conversations, and have expanded our use of visual imagery during services. Music shared by our new Youth Band and the Spark Singers have helped us find another way to praise God during worship.
Reaching New People
To reach new people we must share ourselves and our message of faith, love and hope with the wider community. We frequently participate in Windsor community events like the Windsor Shad Derby. Our Welcoming Ministry is always hard at work, inviting folks to come and try us out! We will be successful in spreading the Good News that is First Church in Windsor only if we all participate in being welcoming.
As members of First Church in Windsor, we will “be united in the same mind and the same purpose." (1 Corinthians 1:10) Our ministries and programs will respond to our mission statement and our core values. Our resources, financial and human, available or yet to be found, will create a sustainable faith community. Priorities will be determined and choices made. We may not agree on everything and opinions will be heard and respected. Our unifying wish for this community of faith is that it be here for the next generations as it has been for us.
