MINISTRY OF MUSIC

                       Mission Statement

The Music Ministry of First Church in WIndsor is committed to music that enhances worship, celebrates creation, fosters peace-making, and cries out for justice.  Although we are many, our goal is one:  to raise a voice of witness to the Realm of God in our midst.

Ministry of Music
.and beyond . . .

Our Music Director/Organist,  Mark D. Watkins, and Associate Music Director, Victor M. Evans, bring a combined total of over 80 years’ experience and learning to The First Church in Windsor.

Their goal and purpose is to help music ministry flourish on an intergenerational level, thus bringing the greatest possible enhancement to worship. But Music Ministry at First Church doesn’t stop there.

We offer numerous special concerts and programs through the year:

The Wednesday Noontime Concert Series takes place at noon on the first Wednesday of the month, September through June, and consists of a half-hour program, followed by coffee and “bring your own” lunch.

Sunday Four O’Clocks feature our choirs and members in concert, followed by High Tea.

Opera in the Meetinghouse is a one-of-a-kind program of opera and Broadway excerpts held in August, featuring guest artists as well as our own local singers.

Visiting Artist Programs are under the auspices of the Music Committee, bringing to First Church the likes of Paul Bisaccia, Pianist; Howard Sprout, baritone; and The Yale Russian Chorus. God is still speaking through music and the arts at First Church. Come and see!  Come and hear!

Graded Choir Program

Cherub Choir
is for three to six year olds and is held during Sunday class time. The Director is Jennifer Osowiecki and she fosters a love of singing in a warm, positive environment. This group ministers in song at Sunday Worship from time to time throughout the year.

Genesis Generation is a Vocal, Rhythm, and Tone Chime Choir for students in grades one through six. The group rehearses most Sunday mornings in Room C-1, at 11:15 am, during Coffee Hour.  Under the direction of Mark D. Watkins they minister in music about once a month at Sunday Worship.

First Church Youth: Our church is blessed with many very talented young people.  From time to time, we hear from some of them who minister in music and song, assist in worship leadership, and express their faith in other ways.  Any interested Youth of First Church in Windsor, grades 7 through 12, are invited to participate.  Our Youth are also welcome and encouraged to participate in Bell, Gallery, Concert, and Seasonal Choirs.

Instrumental Programs

Drumming Circle, led by Maria Eberle, meets on the third Wednesday of each month from 7 - 8 pm in the Music Room of the Meetinghouse. Bring a drum if you have one.  A limited number of drums will be available for use in the Circle.

Bell Choir meets on Thursday evenings at 6:30 pm., and ministers in worship about once a month, in addition to participating in occasional concert events.  This group is open to all, middle school age and older.  Ability to read music is helpful but not essential.

Adult Choir Options

The Gallery Choir meets on Thursday evenings at 7:30 pm (8:00 pm during “Festival Season”), and is open to singers middle school age and older.  Regular membership involves singing at the 10:00 service throughout the year, plus occasional concert performances.

The Festival Choir meets at 7:30 pm during “Festival Season” (which varies from year to year) in order to prepare concert music. Singers from throughout the Windsor area, First Church members and friends, and, of course,  Gallery Choir members, are always welcome!  Seasonal Choir  provides an opportunity for a short-term commitment to worship music.  Rehearsals for Christmas music begin in mid-November; for Easter music, about a month before Easter Sunday.  Rehearsal times and other information will be available in The Edge and our website.
